Princess Superal misses several scoring chances but gains share of lead in Sherwood Ladies Classic
Princess Superal had several chances to take the outright lead but struggles on the tricky greens at Sherwood. 

PRINCESS Superal missed several scoring chances on the back nine at Sherwood Hills but her 70 was enough to gain a share of the lead after two rounds of the Sherwood Ladies Classic on Wednesday in Trece Martirez, Cavite.

The former US Girls Junior champion hit two birdies on the front nine but muffed three chances inside five feet on the homeward nine.

Thailand’s Chatprapa Siriprakob carded a 71 to allow Superal to join her n top at 140.

“I missed a lot of chances at the back. I just couldn’t the get the right speed,” rued Superal, who flubbed putts inside five feet on Nos. 10, 13 and 16 and rolled in a bending 10 footer to save par on No. 15.

Ajira Nualraksa, also from Thailand, bounced back from an opening 73 with a day’s best 69 to join Jayvie Agojo, who fired a 70, at 142.

Amateur Pauline del Rosario had a 72 and dropped to joint fifth at 143 with Cyna Rodriguez, who shot a 70.

Thrice winner on the Ladies Philippine Golf Tour as an amateur, Superal puts herself in contention for a title on her first tournament as a pro and the P150,000 top prize.

“It’s an entirely different thing … different approach, different kind of pressure. I’ll do my best and hope to live up to expectations,” said the 19-year-old Superal.

The Philippine Ladies Open and Hong Ladies Amateur Open champion is preparing for Stage II of the LPGA Qualifying School after an impressive joint second place finish in Stage I.

Thailand’s Aunchisa Utama faltered with a 73 for seventh spot at 144, four strokes adrift, while amateur Sofia Chabon strung up four straight birdies from No. 9 but bogeyed three of the last four holes for a 71 and a 147 in the P750,000 event sponsored by ICTSI, backed by Custom Clubmakers, adidas, KZG, Sharp, Summit Mineral Water, Srixon, Champion, TaylorMade, Ping, Yamaha and Pacsports.
