Tony Lascuna wins PGT Asia's Wack Wack Championship by two strokes
Tony Lascuna scores his first win on the PGTA and third title of the season.

TONY Lascuña fired a closing two-under 70 to win PGT Asia’s ICTSI Wack Wack Championship by two strokes on Saturday in Mandaluyong City.

He wound up with a two-under 286 at Wack Wack East and pocketed US$17,500 (around P890,000).

Lascuna’s win maintained the Filipinos’ domination of the inaugural Philippine Golf Tour Asia after victories by Miguel Tabuena at Southwoods, Rene Menor at Splendido and Clyde Mondilla at Riviera.

Nicolas Paez of the US also fired a closing 70 for an even 288 total for $11,500.

“It’s nice to win again. But I had to work hard to put myself back into contention,” said Lascuña.

“I also polished my putting stroke, medyo magalaw kasi. And when I pulled to within one after the third round, I knew I had a chance,” he added.

Unheralded Rolando Marabe Jr. birdied three of the last six holes to save a 72 to tie Zanieboy Gialon and Thailand’s Pasavee Lertvilai at 290. Each received $5,666.

Justin Quiban never recovered from a bogey-bogey start carded a 77 for a share of sixth at 292 with Michael Bibat and Jobim Carlos, who carded identical 72s.

Jhonnel Ababa fired a 71 for ninth place at 293, while Jelbert Gamolo turned in a 74, Aussie Marcus Both made a 76 and James Lam stumbled with a 77 for a share of 10th at 295.

It was Lascuna’s third championship this year, including the Philippine Golf Tour’s Manila Masters at Eastridge in April and the Forest Hills Championship in June.

Lascuna shoots for another title two weeks from now when PGTA action shifts to Luisita Golf and Country Club in Tarlac for the Central Azucarera de Tarlac Open.
