Four amateurs make US Open out of Daly City sectional as Miguel Tabuena falls just short

AMATEURS took four of the five US Open slots in the sectionals in Daly City California on Monday (Tuesday, Manila time).

Chun An Yu of Arizona State topped the event at 135 with rounds of 65 at Olympic Club and 70 at Lake Merced, while UNLV’s Shintaro Ban shot 67-69.

BYU’s Rhett Rasmussen and Stanford’s Franklin Huang matched South Koean pr Sung Joon Park’s six-under 137 to complete the qualifiers.

Miguel Tabuena wound up two strokes off with rounds of 68-71.

The Filipino pro had five birdies with only one bogey at Olympic Club before making hitting three birdies against two bogeys at Lake Merced.

In New Jersey, Filipino amateur golf star LJ Go had rollercoaster rounds at Canoe Brook Country Club, firing 72 at the South Course and 73 at the North.

Cameron Wilson and Calum Hill topped the sectional with 135s, while Mike Miller (136) and amateurs Stewart Hagestad (136) and Theo Humphrey (137) took the other qualifying spots.
