Miguel Tabuena seeks a tonic in PGT Forest Hills Championship

MIGUEL Tabuena is set to see action but Angelo Que has withdrawn from the ICTSI Forest Hills Championship that starts on Wednesday at Forest Hills Golf and Country Club in Antipolo.

Tabuena remains the marked player in the P3 million Philippine Golf Tour event despite a mediocre joint 47th finish in the Lyoness Open in Austria and a missed cut in the Queens Cup in Thailand.

The 22-year-old former Philippine Open champion won the Luisita Championship in Tarlac in May then resumed his overseas campaign in a bid to gain world ranking points, including stints in the European Tour, the Japan PGA and the Asian Tour.

But a break in the circuits abroad made himself available for this week’s PGT battle.

Tabuena has been grouped with Tony Lascuña and Zanieboy Gialon for the first round.

“Puro bigatin ang kalaban,” said Gialon, who beat Jhonnel Ababa by six at Calatagan to snap a three-year title drought in the circuit sponsored by ICTSI and organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. “But I’m ready and hope to deliver again.”

Lascuña is also raring to end a string of runner-up finishers in the first half of the 14-leg tour.

Que, runaway winner in this year’s PGT kickoff leg at Anvaya, is skipping the event to rest following a series of tournaments in the Japan PGA Tour, where he is based, and last week’s Asian Tour event in Thailand where he finished tied for sixth.

Also playing are two-leg winner Clyde Mondilla, veterans Jay Bayron, Elmer Salvador, Frankie Miñoza, Rufino Bayron, Mars Pucay and Ferdie Aunzo.

Young guns Jobim Carlos, Ira Alido, Keanu Jahns, John Kier Abdon and Justin Quiban going for their maiden win, while leading the foreign players in the tournament backed by Custom Clubmakers, BDO, Meralco, Sharp, KZG, PLDT, Champion, Summit Mineral Water and K&G Golf are Nicolas Paez of the US, Korea’s Park Jun Sung, Australia’s Nathan Park, Macedonia’s Peter Stojanovski and Philippine-based Dutchman Guido Van der Valk.
