Eyes on Ardina, Piccio as Southwoods hosts Ladies Philippine Golf Tour and Taiwan LPGA event
Dottie Ardina looks to do much better than her 11th place finish in the previous event.

FOCUS will be on Symetra Tour campaigners Dottie Ardina and Mia Piccio as home bets try to wi at Southwoods and prevent the foreign bets from sweeping the two-leg ICTSI Champion Tour presented by Champion and Taiwan LPGA Tour.

With LPGA Tour mainstay Cyna Rodriguez and amateur star Princess Superal skipping this week’s US$75,000 championship to compete abroad, eyes will be on Ardina and Piccio.

Korean Lee Jeong-hwa nipped Japanese Fumika Kawagishi by one to top the kickoff leg of this year’s ICTSI Ladies Philippine Golf Tour and the fifth stage of the Taiwan LPGA.

The two are seeing action at Southwoods starting on Wednesday.

Lee and Kawagishi turned the Splendido leg into a two-player affair with Superal emerging the top local finisher at joint third with Thai Kanphanitnan Muangkhumaskul and Taiwanese Chen Yu-ju, the three finishing six strokes behind the Korean ace.

Piccio wound up joint ninth, while Ardina, winner of three LPGT events, ended up solo 11th.

Also expected to bounce back are former Ladies Philippine Open champion Jayvie Agojo, Sarah Ababa and former SEA Games gold medalist Chihiro Ikeda.

The tournament features 38 other mainstays of Taiwan LPGA.

Korean Hwang Ye-nah, winner of last year’s ICTSI Ladies Open at Southlinks, is playing along with Yu Pei-lin and Chen Min-jou of Taiwan, Kang Ji-won of Korea, Japan’s Senno Yasufuku, Yumi Takabayachi and Tomoko Takahashi and Thailand’s Pornpak Paksakul, Chatpara Siriprakob and Saranporn Langkulgasettrin.

Rodriguez resumes her LPGA Tour campaign in Arizona while Superal, former US Girls Junior champion and winner of two LPGT tournaments, is in Portugal as member of the Asian team going up against Europe in a Ryder Cup-style event featuring amateur players.

Before the 54-hole championship sponsored by International Container Terminal Services, Inc., the top pros test the bunker-laden layout in Tuesday’s pro-am tournament where they will be paired with officials and guests of the organizing Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. and event’s chief backers adidas, Custom Clubmakers, KZG, TaylorMade, Champion, Summit Natural Drinking Water, Pacsports, Sharp and Rustan’s Supermarket.
