Southwoods cruises to victory in top two divisions of 67th Fil-Am Invitational

MANILA Southwoods cruised to a 19-point victory in the Fil Championship with 146 points in the final round in the Fil-Am Golf Invitational at Camp John Hay.

Yuto Katsuragawa closed with a three under for 39 points as Southwoods tallied 570 points for the tournament.

The 17-year-old Katsuragawa finished at eight under for 152 points, 10 clear of teammates Ira Alido.

Alido, 15, scored 37 for a 142 total, while Kristoffer Arevalo was a further point down after scoring a 36.

Carl Corpus, also 15, scored a 34.

“With a lead so insurmountable, the boys took it easy and coasted to to victory. We told the boys to take it easy, enjoy the cool air and play stress free,” said Southwoods team captain Thirdy Escano.

“It was by far the most enjoyable round of boys,” added Escano..

Royal Northwoods turned in the best score on the last day of play, scoring 151 to take second spot with 551 points.

Carlo Gatmaytan shot six under for 42 points, Richnell Albano shot two under for 38 points, Richard Joson had a one under for 37, and Carlo Villaroman scored 34

Top amateur player Rupert Zaragosa closed with a 37 and with the 35 of Dan Cruz and the pair of 34s from Jude Eustaquio and Luigi Miguel Guerero gave Forest Hills 519 for third place.

Last year’s champion San Miguel was out of the podium, finishing two points off Forest Hills.

Jelbert Gamolo paced San Miguel with an even par round for 36 points, while Eddie Bagtas and Aniceto Mandanas scored 35s, and GJ Katigbak added a 31.

Mizuno Ecoverde wound up fifth at 514 points after scoring 132, ahead of Team Time Cargo Logistics (126=468) and Che’lus (112=416).

At the Baguio Country Club, Southwoods’ Am Championship team had 112 points for a 533 total to beat Batangas Barakos.

Veteran Jun Plana scored 31 points, 14-year-old Joo Hyung Kim scored 29, Lanz Uy added a 28, and Liam Cully scored 24.
