Japan’s Fumika Kawagishi takes slim lead as Princess Superal moves to joint third in LPGT opener
Amateur star Princess Superal is six strokes off the pace.

JAPAN’s Fumika Kawagishi leads Korea’s Lee Jeong-hwa, while Princess Superal stands at third entering the final round of the ICTSI Champion Tour at Splendido Taal.

Kawagishi fired a seven-under 65 for a 137 total, while former Philippine Ladies Open champion Lee shot a 66 for a 138 on Thursday.

Superal was in joint third after firing a 71 for a 143, six strokes off the pace.

Superal hit three straight birdies from No. 2 but suffered bogeys on No. 6 and 7. She fought back with birdies on Nos. 10 and 12 but made double-bogey on the par-4 13th for a 71 and a 143 total.

Taiwan’s Chen Yu-ju matched par 72 for a share of third with Superal, while Chen Min-jou, also from Taiwan, had a second straight 72 for a 144.

Overnight leader Mookharin Ladgratok of Thailand hobbled with a 76 while compatriot Kanpahnitnan Muanghkumaskul, who started the day in second spot, had a 75 and tumbled to joint sixth at 145 with fellow Thai Chorphaka Jaengkit, Filipina player Mia Piccio and Korea’s Kang Ji-won, who all carded 72s.

Also sharing sixth place were Taiwan’s Shih Huei-ju and Symetra Tour campaigner Dottie Ardina, who both turned in 73s.

Kawagishi said she could’ve shot better if not for her flubbed birdie putts on the back nine.

“I hit solid iron shots but struggled with my putting,” said the player from Yokohama.

“I hope to keep on going tomorrow today and push for more birdies,” said Kawagishi.

LPGA Tour player Cyna Rodriguez continued to struggle, adding a 74 to her opening 76 in the kickoff leg of the ICTSI Ladies Philippine Golf Tour presented by Champion and Taiwan LPGA, organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. and backed by adidas, Custom Clubmakers, KZG, TaylorMade, Champion, Summit Natural Drinking Water, Pacsports, Sharp and Rustans Supermarket.
