Elmer Salvador tops Splendido Classic for first victory of season
Elmer Salvador starts the day three strokes off and finishes with a one-stroke win.

ELMER Salvador went on an early birdie binge and played steady down the stretch for a 67 on Saturday to top the ICTSI Splendido Classic in Tagaytay.

Salvador hit six birdies in a 10-hole stretch and went on to finish at finished at 11-under 277 at Splendido Taal, one stroke ahead of Jay Bayron.

Starting the round three strokes down, Bayron was P360,000 richer at the end of the day.

“My putting clicked today. Except for my missed green bogey on No. 1, I played solid from tee to green,” said Salvador.

“It’s nice to win again. I thought I’d go winless this year,” added Salvador, who won last year at Riviera.

Bayron had a closing 66 and bagged P250,000.

Lascuña fired a final-round 70 and was fourth at 279, bagging P140,000.

Jhonnel Ababa, whose rare double-eagle feat on No. 10 put him two shots clear in the third round, never recovered from a two-bogey and double bogey mishaps after seven holes, finishing with a 73 for joint fourth at 280 with Micah Shin, who carded a second straight 71.

Rey Pagunsan also closed out with a 71 and ended up sixth at 281 while Australia’s Peter Stojanovski turned in a second 71 for seventh at 283.

First round leader Seok Jun Min of Korea fumbled with a 73 and finished tied for eighth at 284 with Michael Bibat, who fired a 70.
