Angelo Que hits two eagles on the way to PGT record 12-stroke victory at Malarayat
Former Philippine Open champion Angelo Que posts his second victory on the domestic tour this season.

ANGELO Que posted a Philippine Golf Tour record 12-stroke victory with a closing 68 on Saturday in the ICTSI Classic at Mt. Malarayat.

The former Philippine Open champion and now Japan Tour regular started the day four strokes clear and played pressure-free on the final day, hitting two eagles and finishing at 21-under 267.

“I really don’t know why I play so good here at Mt, Malarayat,” said Que winner of back-to-back titles at the course from 2008 on the Asean PGA Tour.

The 12-shot victory over James Ryan Lam eclipsed the previous mark of 11 by Tony Lascuña over Zanieboy Gialon in the Forest Hills Championship last year.

Que’s eagle-birdie-birdie run from No. 5 put Que 11 shots clear, slipped with bogey-par-bogey-bogey start on the back nine but hit a monster drive on the 331-yard par-4 16th and made eagle from eight feet.

He sank a 12-foot birdie putt on the par-5 18th to cap his four-day display of brilliant shotmaking, iron play and putting.

“While I practically played good in all four days, the rest had some bad rounds, particularly in the final day,” added Que, who pocketed P360,000 after banking P650,000 in his nine-shot triumph over Japanese Toru Nakajima in the Anvaya Cove Invitational in Bataan in February.

Clyde Mondilla, winner at Southwoods and Villamor, limped with a 76, his four-over card marred by two double bogeys at the back.

That enabled Lam, who birdied the final hole for a 71, to claim a career-best runner-up finish at 279 worth P250,000.

Jerson Balasabas also finished with a birdie to match par 72 and snare third place at 280 for P140,000.

Joenard Rates carded a 70 and took solo fourth at 281, while Jay Bayron fired a 69 and Lascuña shot a 70 to finish tied for fifth with Mondilla at 282in the event backed by Custom Clubmakers, BDO, Meralco, Sharp, KZG, PLDT, Champion, Summit Mineral Water and K&G Golf.
