Abegail Arevalo beats Del Rosario in playoff as PH golfers sweep podium places in California
Abegail Arevalo comes up with rounds of 71 74 and ends her stint with a birdie on the playoff hole.

ABEGAIL Arevalo birdied the first playoff hole to beat Pauleen Del Rosario and bag the title in the 15-18 age group of the Ping Summer Championship series on Friday in California (Saturday, Manila time).

The 15-year-old high school student at Southville International School shot a 71 and 74 for a 145 that was matched by Del Rosario in the 36-hole tournament.

After a huge drive in the playoff, Arevalo, an upcoming talent from the ICTSI golf team, landed her approach to within a few feet for birdie. Del Rosario, also a many-time international titlist, made par.

Samantha Martinez, also of the ICTSI team, took third place after rounds of 74 and 76.

Caroline Ordian of California was fourth at 153 (79-74), while Mexico’s Maria Prado and American Megan Hou tied for fifth at 155 after closing out with efforts of 76 and 77, respectively.

Arevalo next sees action in a tournament set Aug. 6 and 7 in Costa Mesa, California.
