THE National Golf Association of the Philippines has cancelled the Philippine Open so that its sponsors can give more support to victims of the recent super typhoon in the Visayas.
"In light of the devastation caused by Supertyphoon Haiyan/Yolanda, the National Golf Association of the Philippines has decided to cancel the Philippine Open scheduled on Dec. 5-8 at Wack Wack," the NGAP said in a statement.
"This will allow the sponsors to focus on rehabilitation efforts in the affected areas."
The NGAP had been planning to stage a huge Philippine Open this year and had hoped to lure the top players from the Japanese Tour, Asian Tour and OneAsia.
