MIGUEL Tabuena recovered from an early back-nine slip but could not mount a rally and settled for second place in the Asian Tour’s Mercuries Taiwan Masters on Sunday at Taiwan Golf and Country Club.

The young Filipino pro, top earner last season in the Philippine Golf Tour, birdied No. 15 after dropping a stroke on the tenth, but pars on the final three holes were not enough to overcome home bet Lu Wei Chih.

The Taiwanese shotmaker had a two shot-lead entering the final hole and bogey was enough to take the title, submitting a 70 for one-stroke victory over Tabuena.

Tabuena also had a 70 for a 284 total and US$96,000 prize (around P4.6 million).

Lu, who four years ago underwent brain surgery to remove a brain tumor, bagged US$160,000 (around P7.7 million)

Tony Lascuna, current money list leader in the PGT, had a closing 73 for a 295 aggregate and a share of 23rd spot.
