MIGUEL Tabuena came up with some steady play in a mostly shaky final round and the Filipino shotmaker wound up with another 72 in the PGA Tour’s Sony Open in Hawaii.
The Philippine Open champion had three straight birdies on his outward nine to somehow recover from a difficult start that saw him drop five strokes in six holes on Sunday at Waialae (Monday, Manila time).
He traded two birdies and two bogeys on his way back to end his stint at Waialae, finishing 10 spots lower from the previous day.
Tabuena’s second straight 72 put him in a share of 64th at four-under 276.
Top money earner on the Philippine Golf Tour two seasons ago, Tabuena had earlier rounds of 67-65.
Justin Thomas completed a wire-to-wire win, closing with a 65 for a seven-stroke win over Justin Rose, who had a final-round 64.
