ALL eyes are on Miguel Tabuena as the ICTSI Luisita Championship starts on Wednesday at Luisita Golf and Country Club in Tarlac.
Tabuena, winner of the Central Azucarera de Tarlac last year and capped his season by winning the Philippine Open at Luisita, returns to head the cast in the second event of the Philippine Golf Tour season.
“It’s been quite a while since Anvaya. I really looked forward to the next PGT leg and it’s good to be playing here at home,” said Tabuena.
The Philippine Golf Tour took a six-week break after the season opener at Anvaya Cove in Bataan, which Tabuena topped.
Looking to spoil Tabuena’s back-to-back bid are Angelo Que, Tony Lascuña, Jay Bayron, Clyde Mondilla and Elmer Salvador, Dutchman Guido Van der Valk, Japan’s Toru Nakajima and Korea’s Park Min Ung.
“I hope to play in form here at Luisita,” said Tabuena, looking to bounce back from a 57th place finish in the Thailand Classic and 58th in the Indian Open.
“I enjoy the course and it’s been very good to me. I hope to be able to win again this week.”
“I hope people can come out to watch. For sure, there will be a lot of good golf from the guys,” said Tabuena, who will have pal and Symetra Tour campaigner Mia Piccio on the bag.
Tabuena starts with Mondilla and Nakajima, while Que has been drawn to play with Cassius Casas and Jhonnel Ababa. Defending champion Charles Hong drew Korea’s Chang Chang Guo and Miko Alejandro.
Van der Valk will be with Mhark Fernando and Rufino Bayron, while Lascuña will play alongside Salvador and the big-hitting Orlan Sumcad.
Jobim Carlos finally makes his pro debut and will start with Dante Becierra and Michael Bibat, while Park plays with Ferdie Aunzo and Daniel Inocencio of the US in the P3.5 million championship sponsored by International Container Terminal Services, Inc., organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. and backed by Custom Clubmakers, adidas, KZG, Summit Mineral Water, Pacsports, TaylorMade, Sharp and Champion.
