Teenage pro Shin takes two-stroke lead in Sherwood Hills Classic

    Apr 24, 2014

TEENAGE pro Micah Shin bogeyed the final two holes but still wound up two strokes ahead after the second round of the ICTSI Sherwood Hills Classic on Thursday at the Sherwood Hills Golf Club in Trece Martirez, Cavite.

The 17-year-old Shin shot five birdies but had three bogeys for a 70 and a seven-under 137 total.

Overnight leader Randy Garalde scored a 75 and slid to second at 139.

“I didn’t expect to lead. I just played my game although I had some lucky shots to compensate for my so-so putting,” said Shin, who finished tied for 22nd in the season-opener at Splendido, wound up second-to-last at John Hay and was 25th at Eagle Ridge.

Splendido leg winner Jay Bayron moved to third at 140 after a second 70, while Canada’s Rick Gibson was at 141 after a 69.

Clyde Mondilla matched par 72 to join Jessie Balasabas and Edward Reyes, who both struggled with 75s, in fifth at 142.

“I lost my concentration after missing four putts from close range,” rued Garalde.

Former Philippine Open champion Gerald Rosales rebounded from a 75 as he fired a four-under 68 for a 143 total, which was matched by Charles Hong and Art Arbole, who both carded 73s.

Frankie Minoza flashed vintage form and shot seven birdies but made four bogeys and one double bogey to settle for a 71 and a 144 total.
