LIKE the expanding world of golf, Phoenix Petroleum has begun spreading its wings and the oil company that has been dominating the South is making a huge drive in Luzon.

Phoenix Petroleum, the fastest-growing independent oil company in the Philippines, brought together friends in the business and even rivals in the industry in the Phoenix Invitational Golf Cup at Alabang Country Club.

It was Willie Maldia who took the day’s top honors with a tournament best 83, while Rolando Medina had the lowest net of 70 after a round of 86.

Lito Gutierrez came up with an 86 for a net 71 to take Class A honors, while Ronnie Silvestre also had a net 71 after a round of 93 to take second place.

Gino Ng had a 72 (94) to top Class B, with Lito Ramos the runner-up with a 72 (99), while the Class C title went to Bryan Cruz with a net 75 (105), and Gerard Magadia was second at 76 (103).

Gutierrez also struck a 250-yard drive on No. 18 to win the prize for the longest drive, BJ de Guzman was just two and a half inches off dead center of the fairway on No. 9 for the most accurate drive while Poyee Oliquino hit the tee shot nearest to the pin on No. 5, just a couple of feet off the hole.

Phoenix has been holding annual Open golf tournaments for several years, usually coinciding with the Araw ng Dabaw. But company executives deemed it fit to bring the fun to Luzon this time, to thank friends and partners as well as underscore the company's growing presence on the main island of the country.

“The timing is very good. After Phoenix took part in the NBA Global Games, the launch of the high octane fuel Phoenix Premium 98 and the release of the Phoenix Central mobile app, we’re holding a golf tournament here after several years hosting Open tournaments in Davao,” said Celina Matias, Phoenix Petroleum Brand and Marketing Manager.

“This is really for friends of the company, we want to show them our appreciation,” she added.

Phoenix Petroleum recently entered a multi-year partnership with the NBA and as part of the deal, Phoenix recently made 50 local NBA fans’ dreams come true by giving them free tickets to the Philippine stop of the NBA Global Games.

The official fuel of the NBA has also launched the Phoenix Central mobile app, which features a fuel calculator, station finder, and news & tips, during the official launch of Spin.ph.
