LA Salle-Greenhills tries to hold off a formidable Lyceum-Cavite and Beacon sides for the next two rounds starting on Saturday and complete a wire-to-wire triumph in the NGAP’s first-ever Inter-Scholastics golf championship presented by the MVP Sports Foundation at Canlubang in Laguna.
With a 292 aggregate after the first two rounds two weekends ago, LSGH has a three-stroke lead over Lyceum-Cavite and eight over Beacon heading into the third round.
Inigo Raymundo and AR Ramos starred in Day 2 and are expected to again lead the way for LSGH, while Lyceum’s Lawrence Celestino and Wolen Superal will try to overcome the gap.
Basti Lorenzo, who is still recovering from a shoulder injury, and Gabriel Manotoc banner Beacon’s charge as the battle the for the P100,000 athletic scholarship seems to be boiling down to the three teams.
Beacon, behind Lorenzo’s 72 and Manotoc’s 74, shot the best second round score two Sundays ago, a 146, to stay in the hunt in the three-to-play, two-to-count event backed by Pancake House, Nike, Pacsports and Golf Depot.
The event is part of the PLDT Group’s Amateur Tour and the organizing National Golf Association of the Philippines expects this event to lure more schools next year.
College of St. Benilde got the first sub-par round of the tournament from Joseph Uy, a three-under-par 69 at the South layout, but the team stands 27 strokes off the pace.
