THE North squad has a formidable lineup with four former Philippine Ladies Open champions, including the top two finishers in the Order of Merit, but the South team looks to pull off surprises in the Ladies Philippine Golf Tour’s The Duel starting on Wednesday at the South Course of the Canlubang Golf Club in Laguna.
Former Philippine Ladies Open champions Cyna Rodriguez and Jayvie Agojo, 1-2 in the money list this season, lead the lineup that also features former PLO winners Heidi Chua and Mary Grace Estuesta, with Reb Bareng, Majorie Pulumbarit, Jan Punzalan, Lucy Landicho and Lina de Guzman.
Foursomes (alternate shot) and four-ball (best ball) matches are set in the first two days and the North are expected to try and take firm control early before the singles matches on the final day of the three-day event organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc.
Rodriguez won two legs in the inaugural ICTSI LPGT and nipped Agojo to claim the coveted Order of Merit crown.
But the South is not lacking in talent, with former Philippine Ladies Open champion and SEA Games gold medalist Chihiro Ikeda leading the charge in the tournament backed by Nike Golf, Pacsports, Custom Clubmakers and Sharp. The other members of the team are Sarah Ababa, Apple Fudolin, Lovelynn Guioguio, Barsy Leonen, Eva Minoza, Anya Tanpinco and Sylvia Torres.
Four matches are slated each for the foursomes and fourball in the first two days of the event sponsored by International Container Terminal Services, Inc., with Studio 23, Balls, Pinoy Golfer and Impact Magazine as media partners and Event Captain, Inc. as event manager.
Eight singles matches are set on Friday. The first team to win 8.5 points clinches the Duel.
