TWO major golf publications have acknowledged the driving prowess of LPGA rookie Bianca Pagdanganan while trying to explain where her power comes from.
USA Today’s Golf Weekly and Golf.com featured the Filipina golfer over the weekend, discussing her ability to hit long drives with an average length of 287.462 yards in just her first season in the premier ladies pro tour.
“Unlike Bryson DeChambeau, Bianca Pagdanganan didn’t seek out extra yardage. In fact, she can’t really even explain where her power comes from,” wrote Beth Ann Nichols in her story for Golf Weekly.

Pagdanganan’s swing, meanwhile, is now drawing comparisons to that of former world number one Justin Thomas, as per Golf.com.
“Science is showing us the code for long hitting and it’s being embraced across the board. Vertical force is a vital component to long hitting. Jumping your lead side up and out the way transfers speed to the ball through ground reaction force,” said Jonathan Yarwood, one of the top 100 teachers of Golf.com.
In an interview with Nichols, Pagdanganan said there is a simple reason why she hits the ball long.
“I literally just try to hit it as hard as I can and it goes far. I guess the reason, they say, is the lag in my swing,” Pagdanganan, who won two gold medals last year in the Southeast Asian Games, said.
Laura Ianello, Pagdanganan’s coach at Arizona, told Nichols that she is drawing strength from her “insanely” fast hips, and has the potential to do well on the LPGA Tour. Ianello also shared that Pagdanganan was their “unicorn” in the team.
“(Bianca) is eventually going to make a ton of money on the LPGA once she can dial in those numbers with her short irons,” said Ianello.
