Australian legend Greg Norman and his team made an unannounced visit to the country on Wednesday to conduct inspections on at least four golf courses, with the possibility of selecting one as a venue for a LIV Golf tournament next season.
Norman, LIV Golf chief executive officer, showed up at The Country Club in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, Sta. Elena Golf and Country Club in Cabuyao, Laguna, and the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club in Carmona, Cavite.
Norman’s team also visited the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club in Mandaluyong in the morning.
While there has been no official confirmation from LIV Golf regarding the selection of these courses, sources indicate that Norman’s trip had been arranged weeks in advance with club officials sworn to secrecy.
At Manila Southwoods, his last stop, Norman was seen with Al Tengco, chairman and CEO of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR), suggesting the government’s interest in the blue-ribbon event.
On hand to welcome the Australian great was Southwoods chairman Bob Sobrepena and other officials led by GM Jayson Yu.

During the visit, the Australian meticulously inspected all 18 holes of the Jack Nicklaus-designed Masters course, spending approximately an hour on the ground.
Norman immediately left the club to preside over a meeting with his staff at the hotel in the evening.
With their stunning vistas and challenging layouts, the golf courses Norman visited are well-suited to host LIV Golf events, providing an ideal backdrop for the sport’s elite players.

All four courses have wide spaces for a temporary grandstand in the key holes and other structures, and a generous parking space.
The LIV Golf experience includes elements like nine-hole miniature golf, chipping challenges, driving simulators, and unique venues such as the Helipad Bar for fans.
Long. But long enough?
All four courses are considered the longest in the country.
Wack Wack’s East course boasts 7,317 yards from the tips while TCC measures 7,247 yards, Southwoods 7,225 yards, and Sta. Elena 7,119 yards.
In terms of proximity, Wack Wack holds an edge, although traffic in the area would be a big concern.
Manila Southwoods has a strong track record of hosting significant international events, positioning it as a leading candidate.
However, the ultimate decision rests with Norman and his team.
