LEXI Thompson fired a bogey-free 66 to take the lead as Filipina-Japanee golfer Yuka Saso slipped in the third round of the US Women’s Open on Saturday at The Olympic Club in San Francisco (Sunday, Manila time).
World No. 9. Thompson had three birdies on the outward nine and two coming back for a seven-under 206 total.
Saso, halfway leader with rounds of 69-67, could not hold on to the top spot, a birdie-bogey finish giving her an even 71 for second spot, a stroke off Thompson.
The 19-year-old Saso wound up with four birdies against four bogeys.
Jeongeun Lee, playing in the final pairing with Saso, shot a 73 and was tied for third at three-under with amateur Megha Ganne, who carded a 72.
