JUVIC Pagunsan fell short in his title bid in the Japan Golf Tour following a one-over 71 in the final round to finish tied for sixth in the Chunichi Crowns on Sunday at the Nagoya Golf Club.

It was still the best finish for the 46-year-old veteran campaigner who has two wins in the Japan circuit, the last one two years ago at the Golf Partner Pro-Am.

Pagunsan was one shot behind the leader after the first round and was just two shots off at the start of the final round.

But after making the turn at one under, Pagunsan bogeyed 13th and 16th after missing the green. He finished three strokes behind winner Yosuke Asaji, who finished at seven under.

It was not a bad outing for the only Filipino in the Japan Tour, who earned about P1.2 million for his Top 10 finish.

    Pagdanganan, Saso fall flat

Meanwhile, it was zero earnings for the country’s campaigners in the LPGA Tour.

Bianca Pagdanganan and Fil-Japanese Yuka Saso both missed the cut at the Black Desert Championship in Ivins, Utah.

Pagdanganan, 27, shot a two-over-par 74 in the second round and finished seven over, while Saso shot a 76 and was at six over. The cut line was three-under-par.

This will be the fourth time in five tournaments that Pagdanganan has missed the cut, while Saso, winner of two U.S Women’s Open, has missed the cut three times in seven events.

Over at the PGA Tour, Filipino bet Rico Hoey shot a closing round two-over-par 73 at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and finished tied for 51st place. Hoey had first round 63 but could not sustain his form for the rest of the event.

Scottie Scheffler won the event in overwhelming fashion, lapping the field with an eight-stroke victory after a final-round eight-under-par 63 to tie the Tour scoring record for the event at 31 under par.

It was Scheffler’s first win of the season and the world No. 1 appears dialed in for the rest of the season with the second major, the PGA Championship, set to begin two weeks from now at Quail Hollow.
