Raymundo, Carlos survive tough round to take share of lead with Chan-Alido in National Doubles Amateur

Inigo Raymundo and Jobim Carlos both shoot 70 in the second round.

INIGO Raymundo matched Jobim Carlos’ two-over 70 for a 140 and a share of the lead with Aidric Chan and Ira Alido in the second round of the NGAP’s fifth National Doubles Amateur Golf Championship on Monday at Camp Aguinaldo Golf Club in Quezon City.

The pro-bound Carlos birdied the last hole to soften the blow of a horrendous quadruple bogey on the par-3 No. 16.

Carlos hit an errant pitch near a wall, the ball bouncing back and hitting him in the chin for a two-stroke penalty. Stung, he overshot the green twice before chipping in for a seven.

Raymundo fumbled with a bogey on an errant drive on the par-5 No. 18.

Raymundo and Carlos, who had a 64 in Sunday’s fourball, pooled a 204.

Alido and Chan, who sizzled with a solid eight-under 62 in best-ball, came up with a 142 in aggregate as the former came up with a 66 and the latter struggled to an eight-over 76.

Constantino actually put in an impressive three-under 65 but Jona Magcalayo made a dismal 80 for a 145 and a 215. Erstwhile leader Marvi Monsalve and Daniella Uy faltered with a 154 after an opening 66 and tumbled to third at 220.
