Japan’s Nagai clinches Visayas Regional Amateur golf title

GEN Nagai closed out with a one-over-par 71 to win the NGAP's Visayas Regional Amateur Championship by seven strokes at the tree-lined Binitin layout in Bacolod City on Sunday.

The 16-year-old Nagai was four-over after 11 holes but recovered with by picking up three shots in his last seven for nines of 38-33 and a 56-hole total of 217.

Nick Martin Aleluya, a 19-year-old who has been caddying the last five years at the course located in Murcia town, closed out with a 76 for second place.

Wei Wei Gao shot a 72 and wound up third, another three strokes behind in the event presented by the MVP Sports Foundation as part of the PLDT Group Amateur Tour and backed by Pancake House, Golf Depot and Pacsports.

Fernando Mondares fired a second straight 74 for fourth place, a further stroke behind Gao.

Nagai is a member of two-time Interclub champion Cebu Country Club.
