HUNG Chien-yao was tied for the lead until the final two holes but failed to hold on to the top spot, but provided the highlight of the day with a hole-in-one in the Manila Masters on Sunday at Manila Southwoods in Cavite.
The 23-year-old Hung aced the 241-yard No. 13, winning a VIP aircraft service in the Philippines worth worth US$250,000 (around P11 million).
The prize, sponsored by Red Tail Aviation, is one of the most unique prizes on offer for a hole-in-one on the Asian Tour and is valid for six months. The service includes helicopter or airplane trips within the country.
Tour rookie Natipong Srithong of Thailand closed with a five-under 67 to win by one over Jbe Kruger. Srithong finished at 15-under 273 and bagged the $180,000 prize.
Hung birdied Nos. 15 and 16 but dropped two strokes on the par-5 closing hole for a 73, finishing two strokes off two with a 73 and a 275. He settled for joint third with compatriot Lee Chieh-po, who closed out with a 70.
"Hopefully I can do better next time," said Hung.
