The JGFP Mindanao Pueblo Junior Open ended with Aldrien Gialon and Kiara Montebon topping the 15-18 divisions and Clement Ordeneza clinching the boys’ 13-14 in dramatic fashion at the Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro City on Thursday.

Gialon, a 17-year-old talent from Davao City, closed with a two-under-par 70 to finish the 36-hole tournament on 2-under 142. He also topped the 54-hole WAGR event on 5-under 211.

Montebon, who lost to Alethea Gaccion in a sudden-death playoff last year, shot 68 and 69 to capture the girls’ event.

Gaccion captured the girls’ WAGR event on 213, one stroke ahead of Montebon.

The final round was marked by two playoff matches.

Three players figured in a tie for second place behind Gialon.

John Canlas, an 18-year-old student from De la Salle Santiago Zobel, won in the first extra hole, dropping a 10-foot eagle putt on the seventh. Cliff Nuneza made a birdie to take third spot at the expense of Iggy Fabiala.

Clement Ordeneza of Del Monte and Geoffrey Tan of Xavier School forged a title showdown in the boys’ 13-14 after finishing 36 holes on identical 151s.

The 14-year-olds missed birdie putts on the first two extra holes and Tan forced another extension by saving par off the bunker.

In an anti-climactic finish, Tan topped his shot in his second trip on the bunker and Ordeneza punctuated his win with a birdie.

The Batican siblings also shared the limelight by producing impressive rounds.

Apollo Batican, the 11-year-old playing in boys’ 13-14, produced a 71 to climb to third place.

His younger sister, Athena, was even more impressive, firing a tournament-best 66 to clinch the girls’ 9-10.

Nicole Gaisano Gan bounced back with a 72 to win the girls’ 13-14 by one shot over Isabella Tabanas.
