FORMER pro Eddie Bagtas scored a second straight two-over-par 74 to grab a four-stroke lead after the second round of the National Senior Amateur championship on Thursday at Mount Malarayat complex in Lipa City.
Bagtas, who who returned to the amateur ranks at the start of the year to help Luisita win the Interclub Championship in Bacolod, zeroed in on his first individual crown with a 148 aggregate with one round to play in the National Golf Association of the Philippines tournament presented by the MVP Sports Foundation.
Abe Avena, who shared the lead with three others after the first round, had a second-round 78 for a 152 total.
Former champion Dave Hernandez fired a second straight 77 to take third spot in the PLDT Group Amateur Tour event.
Rudy Amata shot a 77 for a 155 total, while Francis Gaston also scored 77 and was at 156.
Gary Sales took a two-stroke lead in the Mid-Amateur division after firing a 78 for a 155 total in the tournament also backed by Pancake House, Golf Depot and Pacsports.
Bagtas gunned down three birdies and had five bogeys, while Avena started out bogey-bogey and had two double bogeys.
