DOTTIE Ardina moved ahead in the race to the LPGA with a joint second-place finish in the Symetra Tour’s Donald Ross Classic on Saturday in French Lick, Indiana.
The Filipina shotmaker matched the week’s best 65 in the closing round, going bogey-free to wind up just a stroke behind Stephanie Kono of the US, who fired a 68 for 202.
“Entering the day four shots out of the lead and shooting 6-under to be the clubhouse leader for a while felt great,” Ardina told symetratour.com.
“To maintain my status in the top-10, I knew I had to have a good showing this week with the purse being the biggest all season. Being No. 1 in the Volvik Race is where I wanted to be after making the decision to stay on the Symetra Tour full-time the rest of the year.”
Clariss Guce wound up in joint 18th after a final-round 73 for a four-under 209, while Mia Piccio had a closing 76 for a 212 total and a share of 32nd spot.
Ardina, who recovered from an opening 72 with a 66 in the middle round, was 10 under in the 54-hole event, with Karen Chung of the US matching her after a 67. They each bagged US$18,258 (around P976,000).
That allowed Ardina, playing in the LPGA on conditional status this season, to move up the Volvik Race for the Card. The top 10 in the Symetra Tour money list at the end of the season will earn full LPGA cards.
It was the third runner-up finish this season for Ardina, raising her earnings to $58,563, with Jenny Haglund of Sweden in second at $49,751.
Isi Gabsa of Germany has $46,512 followed by Ruixin Liu of China at $40,175.
