Vicente Santos topped the elections for 11 board seats in the National Golf Association of the Philippines held at the Alabang Country Club in Muntinlupa on Friday.
Santos gets 79 votes
Santos, backed by the Sta. Lucia-owned golf courses, garnered 79 votes, one ahead of Martin Lorenzo who is expected to be elected to a third term as NGAP president.
The other winning candidates were Arnold Corporal (76), Gen. Charlton Sean Gaerlan (76), Jose Dagdagan (75), Peng Perez de Tagle (75). Al Panlilio (72), Jose Pepot Inigo (69), Leana Farrales-Carmona (61), Gen. Connor Anthony Canlas (60), and Kit Angeles (56).
Among the incumbents, only outgoing vice president Rolando Romero did not make it after collecting only 33 votes.
Arroyo figures badly
Juan Miguel Arroyo, his allies and other independent candidates figured badly at the polls.
Arroyo, who did not show up in the elections, got only 27 votes. Willy Ocier had 22, Lawrence Tan 8, Rolando Soriano Jr. 6, and Juan Roxas 2.
Cesar Jalosjos, whose family owns Dakkak Golf and Country Club in Dapitan, and Rolando Nerona did not receive a single vote.
A total of 26 votes were invalidated by the NOMELEC.
