Dottie Ardina carries one-stroke lead into final round of Valley Golf Ladies Challenge

    Oct 15, 2014
Dottie Ardina looks to score a big win in the penultimate leg of the eight-tournament series.

DOTTIE Ardina recovered from a slip in the middle of the round, hitting three birdies in the last five holes for a 70 and a one-stroke lead after the second round of the ICTSI Valley Golf Ladies Challenge on Wednesday at the Valley Golf Club in Antipolo.

Ardina fell three strokes behind Lovelynn Guioguio after No. 10 but birdied Nos. 14, 16 and 17 enabled her to finish on top at five-under 139.

“The greens became slower due to rain. I will try to hit closer to the pin tomorrow,” said Ardina.

Guioguio hit three birdies in the first seven holes and took the lead with a birdie on the par-5 No. 10.

The shotmaker from Bukidnon, however, dumped her tee-shot on the par-3 No. 11 into the greenside bunker then three-putted for a double-bogey. She recovered a shot with a birdie on the 13th but failed to match Ardina’s scorching windup.

Still, Guioguio stayed in the hunt for a breakthrough pro win with a 140.

Mia Piccio rebounded from a disastrous 76 with a tournament-best six-under 66 for a 142 total, just three shots off the pace.

“I’m hitting it well and I hope to continue to play my game,” said Piccio, who like Ardina is preparing for the LPGA Final Qualifying Stage in December.
