BRYSON DeChambeau was the shock winner of LIV Golf Singapore Sunday after wildcard Richard Lee three-putted from 10 feet and bogeyed the first playoff hole allowing the American star to win the event after hitting his drive into the water.
DeChambeau’s title bid was deemed to have met a watery grave after his wayward drive.
But the two-time US Open champion was undaunted. He hit his 230-yard third shot to the left side of the rough near the green, then chipped to within three feet to save par.
Lee, on the other hand, was on in three on the par 5 18th hole, after his drive found the bunker, and had to layup. His third shot was sublime. He hit within 10 feet and a short birdie putt to win. He missed, the ball swerved right to about two feet and his comebacker to extend the playoff hit the hole and rolled out.
Among those who witnessed Lee’s that included Lee’s wife and child, was stunned beyond belief. Even DeChambeau appeared surprised.
For sure, it’s not certain he would have won the playoff if it was extended but losing it in that manner may haunt Lee for some time.
It was also a costly miss. Lee looked headed to a $4 million bonanza, the prize for the winner, but settled for $2.250 million for second place. Not exactly bad for four days’ work.
Both finished regulation at 14 under par with DeChambeau getting into the playoff with a two-putt birdie on the 18th.

Meanwhile, Miguel Tabuena had a miserable day on the golf course, firing a final round 4-over-par 75 to finish solo 50th.
His round included three birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey.
Still, not a bad day at the office for the Filipino wild card who took home $50,000 (P2.9 million), the fixed amount for players who finished 47th to 57th place.
