MELBOURNE – 'Swingderella' is at it again.
Inspired after getting up close and personal with golf idols Jason Day and Jordan Spieth in Sydney, in-form Ella Nagayo went home to Melbourne and immediately buckled down to work.
The 13-year old golf scholar from Davao City relied on her short game to put together a three-over par 75 and retain the Stuart Appleby Signature Open title on November 19 in Lilydale, Victoria.
Nagayo tamed the Gardiners Run Golf Club with awesome shotmaking and precision putting. She had four bogeys and a lone birdie on the eighth but her 75 was enough to retain the title she won last year.
Father Danny, who again worked as her caddie, advised her to use her 3-wood and dump the errant driver. That proved crucial as she came through with a couple of saved pars.
