All eyes on Cyna Rodriguez, Amy Phalajivin as LPGT season-ender tees off at Sherwood

    Nov 24, 2014
Cyna Rodriguez looks to bounce back after a joint sixth place finish at Riviera.

TOP local shotmaker Cyna Rodriguez and Thailand’s Amolkan Phalajivin head the cast in the P750,000 ICTSI Sherwood Ladies Championship starting on Tuesday at the Sherwood Hills Golf Club in Trece Martires, Cavite.

Rodriguez scored three straight tournament wins before Phalajivin stopped her run by topping the Ladies Philippine Golf Tour’s Splendido leg in September. Rodriguez then struggled in the following leg at Valley dominated by Symetra Tour campaigner Dottie Ardina.

With Ardina back in the US to resume her bid for an LPGA card, focus will be on Rodriguez and Phalajivin although 35 other top female golfers will be out to steal the show in the LPGT season-ender.

Jayvie Agojo is looking to score a second title after winning at Riviera in the second leg of the circuit organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc.

Agojo, Rodriguez, Phalajivini are playing together in the first round of the 54-hole tournament sponsored by International Container Terminal Services, Inc.

Princess Superal is also expected to figure prominently in the title race given her confidence and a good run of form that netted her a string of victories this year, including the US Girls Juniors crown and Santi Cup.

The 16-year-old Superal is also out to duplicate her record win in the final leg in Baguio last year where she dominated the pro field with an eight-stroke romp behind a record bogey-free 17-under 190 total.

Pauline del Rosario, Superal’s teammate in the Santi Cup champion squad and Asian Games team, is also in the field along with Team ICTSI mainstays Sofia Chabon, Yuka Saso, Sam Green, Sam Martirez and Abegail Arevalo and amateur standouts Vanessa Tsutsui, Aloyza Atienza, sisters Nikki and Sam Bruce, Phing Jalares and Kristine Torralba.
