COOKIE La’O, Anthony Fernando and Robert Pactolerin head the Filipinos looking to make it to the PGT Asia through the qualifying tournament firing off on Wednesday at Luisita Golf and Country Club in Tarlac.
Jun Bernis, Tonton Asistio, Rufino Bayron, Rico Depilo, Paul Echavez, Jama Reyes, Jet Mathay and Rey Pagunsan are also in the 132-player field.
The tournament features players from 20 countries including 26 from Thailand and 17 from Australia.
The top 40 plus ties in the 72-hole event will earn playing rights in the PGT Asia starting next week also at Luisita.
Already with PGTA cards are the top 50 players from last year’s Order of Merit and the top 30 from the Philippine Golf Tour money list.
The second season has 10 tournaments.
The second leg is set at Riviera from May 30 to June 2, followed by the Manila Southwoods leg from June 6 to 9. Forest Hills hosts the fourth leg from July 18 to 21, while the fifth leg will be held on July 25-28 at a still unspecified venue.
Orchard will stage the next stop from Sept. 5 to 8 followed by the CAT Open back at Luisita from Sept. 11 to 14.
Action shifts back to the south for the eighth stop at Summit Point from Sept. 25 to 28, Mt. Malarayat from Oct. 2 to 5 before winding up at Wack Wack on Nov. 21 to 24.
