CLYDE Mondilla shoots for a second straight victory as the Philippine Golf Tour holds the ICTSI Calatagan Invitational starting on Wednesday in Batangas.
Mondilla edged rookie pro Jobim Carlos in a playoff for the Manila Masters at Eastridge Golf Club two weeks ago for his fourth career victory.
The two are again tipped to lead the title chase in the sixth leg of the pro circuit, with top Filipino golfers Miguel Tabuena and Angelo Que skipping the event.
Tabuena returns to Manila on Tuesday from an Asian Tour campaign in Mauritius where he finished tied for 18th, while Que, is competing in the Japan Tour this week.
The PGT returns to Calatagan after a two-year absence. Mhark Fernando beat Rufino Bayron by five in 2012, then Tony Lascuna defeated Jhonnel Ababa by four in the 2013 edition.
Ababa and Rufino Bayron are also out to end a long title spell along with Jay Bayron, Elmer Salvador, Mars Pucay, Arnold Villacencio, Anthony Fernando, Marvin Dumandan, Cassius Casas, Zanieboy Gialon, Jerson Balasabas, Charles Hong, Orlan Sumcad, Joenard Rates and Gerald Rosales in the Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. event offering a top prize of P270,000.
Dutchman Guido Van der Valk, Americans Sam Ayotte, Daniel Inocencio, Chris Oetinger and Dylan Jackson, Japan’s Syotaro Onuki and Yuta Sudo, Aussie Nathan Park and Korea’s Park Chan Jung, Park Jun Song and Park Min Ung are also seeing action in the event sponsored by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. and backed by Custom Clubmakers, adidas, KZG, Summit Mineral Water, Srixon, Pacsports, TaylorMade, Sharp and Champion.
