CLYDE Mondilla fired a 71 to take a one-stroke lead over Zanieboy Gialon and two others in the second round of the US$60,000 ICTSI Orchard Golf Championship at the Orchard’s Player course on Thursday in Dasmarinas, Cavite.
Mondilla rebounded from two early bogeys at the back with four birdies against one more bogey on No. 5 to move to five-under 139.
Gialon put in a steady second 70 and for a 140 total, which was matched by Elmer Salvador and Jay Bayron.
Salvador birdied three of his last nine holes for a 70, while Bayron fired a 69 to force a three-way tie for second.
William Cannon of the US bogeyed the par-5 18th and settled for a 72 for solo fifth at 142.
Frankie Miñoza, joint leader after one round, struggled to a 75 for a 143 total to tie John Catlin of the US, Thailand’s Gunn Charoenkul and Joenard Rates.
Charoenkul shot a 68, while Rates matched par 72.
Tony Lascuña fired a 74 marred by a triple-bogey seven on No. 17 for a 144, tied with Jhonnel Ababa (70), Thailand’s Kasidit Lepkurte (71), Brett Munson of the US (70), Orlan Sumcad (72), and Dutchman Guido Van der Valk (73).
Rookie Ira Alido, joint leader after 18 holes, missed the cut after firing an 85 for a 153 total in the tournament sponsored by ICTSI, organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. and backed by BDO, KZG, Custom Clubmakers, Meralco, Sharp, Champion, Summit Mineral Water and PLDT.
