POWER-hitting Clyde Mondilla eyes a rebound as the Central Azucarera de Tarlac Open starts on Wednesday at Luisita Golf and Country Club.
After withdrawing from Wack Wack due to foot blisters, Mondilla returns to action in the US$100,000 event (around P5 million) offering a top prize of US$17,500 (around P880,000).
“It’s anybody’s game but I think my chances are good in his course even against the foreign aces. I can hit my drive without hesitation,” said Mondilla.
Tony Lascuña seeks a second straight win after topping Wack Wack, while long-hitting Jobim Carlos is also among the players to watch.
“The course is in great shape, especially the greens. I think it will all boil down to putting. There are fast greens and those that bite, so you really have to be very careful with each shot,” said Lascuña.
Lascuña starts with Frankie Miñoza and Thailand’s Natchanon Varapornkittirat, while Mondilla and Zanieboy Gialon have been grouped with Jacob Fleck of the US.
“The wind blows from all directions and this is the first time that I encounter this condition here. But if you can play with it and through the hazards, you’ll have a big chance,” said Carlos.
