BAGUIO CITY – Luisita lived up to its billing as the top favorite in the 75th Fil-Am Invitational at John Hay Golf on Saturday, grabbing the early lead with Abe Rosal at the forefront of the team’s title-retention bid.
Rosal, a teaching pro, scored the tournament’s best score so far, a three-under-par 66 in stroke play but 39 points under the scoring format used in the event.
His play pulled the team to the top of the men’s senior division with 132 points as the event moved into its second day under cool and clear skies at the nation’s summer capital.
Rosal fired eight birdies against five bogeys and his teammates were also up to the occasion, each one posting scores of 30 or better in the four-to-play, four-to-count competition.
Ferdie Barbosa had 32, Benjie Sumulong posted 31, and Ronnie Littaua 30.
Nineteen points behind was Riviera Golf which drew 113 from Kyung Young Jung (33), Chan Yeong Gim (30), Erwin Mendiola (26), and Cipriano Abdon (24).
Valley Golf was in third spot with 110 points.
Over at Baguio Country Club, Green Water Seniors surged into the lead with 104 points, 21 points ahead of Mamala Bay.
Scoring for Green Water were Suny Fontilea 30, Tommy Manotoc 25, Roland Punzalan 25, and Douglas Puckett 24.
