Ryutaro Nagano sets pace as Filipino golfers get off to sluggish start in Chiba

Angelo Que made birdie on the opening hole but fell back to even two holes later. 

RYUTARO Nagano came up with a bogey-free six-under 66 to set the pace as Filipino golfers struggled in the opening round of the Panasonic Open on Thursday in Chiba, Japan.

Nagano hit three birdies on each nine at Chiba Golf Club Umesato Course, making three straight from No. 11, taking a one-stroke lead over Jason Knutzon of the US.

Angelo Que had a promising start with birdie on the opening hole but had three bogeys against just one more birdie, on No. 14, and submitted a 72 for a share of 46th spot.

Miguel Tabuena carded a 73, going one-under on the back nine where he started but suffering three bogeys on the next nine and wound up in joint 63rd.

Juvic Pagunsan was at five-over 76, hitting one birdie against six bogeys for joint 118th.
