ANGELO Que could not hold in the tough final round, slipping from the top spot to finish in joint fifth on Sunday in the Japan Golf Tour’s JGT Championship Mori Building Cup in Ibaraki.
The former Philippine Open champion went two over with back-to-back bogeys from No. 8 and could not recover, hitting a birdie and a bogey on the back nine for a 73 at Shishido Hills Country Club.
Que, who started the day tied for the lead, finished at 2-over 279, for a share of fifth and ¥5,450,000 (around P2.4 million).
He was tied with Yoshinori Fujimoto, who fired a closing 69, and Brad Kennedy of Australia, who had a final-round 71.
South Africa’s Shaun Norris fired the week’s best 64 and wound up at 13-under 271 for a four-stroke victory worth ¥30,000,000.
Seungsu Han had a closing 68 for solo second at 275 for ¥15,000,000.
Satoshi Kodaira carded a 66 and Brendan Jones shot a 70 to share third place at 8-under 276, bagging ¥8,700,000 each.
