MELBOURNE, Australia — Alessandra Krstine "Ella" Nagayo won the 2018 School Sports Victoria Junior State Finals with a 75 at the Gardiners Run Golf Course.
Representing Rowville Secondary College, the 14-year old Nagayo earned a spot in the Under 15 Victoria State Team to the National Finals in November in Sydney.
It was a huge win for Nagayo after a runner-up finish last year.
Jazy Roberts of Crusoe College was second with a 76, followed by Kayli Schenk or Maribyrnong College with a 78.
She was two-over at the turn but played steadier on the next nine, finishing with a nine-foot birdie putt to secure the win.
"It was a tricky birdie putt but I kept myself calm," said Nagayo, daughter of former city councilor Rachel and Melbourne-based golfing businessman-nurse Danny.
In the boys championship, Thomas Hanson of Trinity College shot a four-under 68 to beat Baxter Droop of Sacred Heart College, who shot a 70 and Michael Song, who fired a 71.
