"HUWAG NA HUWAG kang bababa sa silong."
And what happens if you do so? A house of horrors await, which was something that was explored in Paragon Interactive's upcoming game, Silong.
Silong is an indie-Filipino horror game that relies heavily on its environment to produce the scares. Among the games we've played during PGDX 2024, it has one of the best usage of sound design as we could feel the eerie and creepy atmosphere of the haunted house.
Ano meron sa Silong?
In Silong, players will play as Tommy, a kid who was warned not to proceed to the basement. Out of curiosity, Tommy decided to ignore their pleas and open Pandora's box, a move which will forever haunt him.
Now Tommy has to deal with supernatural entities such as a Tiyanak, and the like.
To deal with this, Tommy needs to search for tools that can aid him in his journey, plus he also needs to rely on stealth by hiding inside cabinets or by going under the bed.
Players will also be given dilemmas throughout the game, where they'll decide on which path they'll take. Is it better to escape through the backdoor or the vents?
Just by looking at its gameplay, Silong resembles that of the hide-and-seek, chase mechanic as seen from classics like Haunting Ground or the Clock Tower franchise, or indie horror games like Eyes: The Horror Game or Slender: The Eight Pages.
It's use of the 1st person mechanic would further amplify the experience as players will fully immerse themselves from the perspectives of Tommy.
Though there is a lot of promise due to its sound design and environment, the game could further improve as the initial jumpscares are somewhat lacking. As time goes by, perhaps we could see the game develop in this aspect.
