SONY JUST RECENTLY announced their newest product, the PlayStation 5 Pro or PS5 Pro which currently costs around US$699.00-US$700.00 (Php40,000.00), above the US$499.00 (Php28,000.00) price tag of the original PS5.
During their presentation, Mark Cerny the lead architect of the PlayStation, gave a demo as to how the PS5 Pro stands out compared to the OG. Here are some of its key features.
A perfect mix of Fidelity and Quality
The original PS5 offers two modes namely Fidelity Mode and Quality Mode, with the former more focused on high-end graphical output, while the latter opts for a better game performance. Sony conducted a study on which mode the community prefers and it was revealed that Quality Mode is the ideal setup.
With the PS5 Pro, players get a chance to play their games featuring the best of both modes.
Hardware upgrades
As to why the PS5 Pro has a better performance? Sony made some key additions with the hardware composition of the Pro.
With a 67% Compute Units mixed with a 28% Faster RAM, the device has a 45% Faster rendering time.
Add the Advanced Ray Tracing Features and the Pro offers the most advanced in-game lighting and graphical quality.
And speaking about graphics, the PS5 Pro has incorporated Al-Driven upscaling, meaning that low resolution games can become crystal clear.
Sony even revealed the list of games that will experience the enchanced features such as Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, Hogwarts Legacy, and more.
PS5 Pro doesn't have a disc drive
While many of its hardware features could be a spectacle for gamers, the lack of a disc drive could be a red flag for hardcore tech enthusiasts.
This means that players can only purchase digital copies of their favorite games. If players want to purchase a hardcopy or CD copies of their games, they need to buy a separate disc drive, a turnoff to fans who wish to upgrade from the OG to the Pro.
However this isn't just limited to the disc drive as the PS5 Pro's vertical stand is also sold separately.
This means that the PS5 isn't just worth US$700.00 as it would amount to US$800.00 (Php45,000.00) if the vertical stand and disc drive are included.
Fans riot
With the heavy price tag already listed, Sony has received backlash from the community. Most of the complaints stem from the lack of a disc drive and vertical stand, while others would argue that its latest additions do not merrit a US$700 tag.
And given the nature of the device, some members of the community would recommend a PC gaming setup, which could be cheaper given the customization of hardware devices.
While it may seem questionable for the PlayStation 5 Pro to offer an expensive price tag, there have been theories formed as to why Sony decided to go for that move.
Tom Warren, a senior editor from The Verge said: "The $699 price tag on the PS5 Pro certainly tests the waters for next-gen console pricing and discless consoles," he started.
"Hold onto your disc drives and wallets, because next-gen consoles aren't gonna be cheap and will almost certainly come discless as standard."
Whether you agree to their sentiments or not, gamers can get a chance to try the latest PlayStation 5 product starting November 7, 2024.
