FROM DOTA 2, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress, and now a new game in Valve's arsenal.

Enter, Deadlock, a hero shooter game that features elements from MOBA titles. Given the approach that Valve took with their upcoming game, it can be argued that it resembles that to Blizzard Entertainment's OverWatch.

But is that really the case? Or is Deadlock more of a Smite-esque game?

Deadlock is more of a MOBA game

If OverWatch is a game that encourages players to secure objectives while going all out on brawling their foes, Deadlock offers a different approach. Like in MOBA games, there are creeps or minions, and turrets/towers that players will have to deal with.

Like Dota, Deadlock's learning curve ceiling is very high are players are encouraged to master a lot of gameplay mechanics. Shooting your opponents isn't as straightforward as players need to be accurate with their aim.

Heroes will also have melee attacks and players are tasked to time them well as these can be dodged or parried, and even the defensive actions on melee attacks also need to be accurately timed, making Deadlock a game that requires a high level of skill.

There are also other features that players need to look out for like the stamina bar that will appear on screen. A full stamina bar will allows players to unleash aerial jumps or air dashes, but these need to managed well as opposing players can punish you if this depletes.

Players also need to purchase items that will boost their damage output or supporting capabilities, and they also need to be wary of the power spikes of their characters as some heroes have strong early game capabilities while others shine in the mid-to-late game.

Deadlock is set in a Steampunk era

If Dota and League of Legends take place in a fantasy/cosmic world, while OverWatch happens in a futuristic setting, the events in Deadlock occurs in an alternate version of New York City back in the 1930s Prohibition era.

Sounds like a game full of mafias and gangsters right? However, there are elements of the occult involved in the game as players are tasked to absorb souls and there are characters like Haze who have an ethereal appearance. Some characters even looke like goblins and other mythical beings.

So far the release date of the game has yet to be announced, but so far Deadlock is looking promising with its unique features.

Streamer Shroud even had high praises for the game saying: "This game is going to easily take over in two years when it comes out."

Will this be another Valve masterpiece similar to Dota 2 and Half-Life?
