FALLOUT HAS been one of the most popular video game franchises all thanks to its brilliant storytelling, its post-apocalyptic nuclear setting, and its dark sense of humor, and this was even seen in Amazon Prime's adaptation of the beloved series.

And with Fallout reaching the general audience, those who fell in love with the Amazon Prime show would oftentimes ask, 'Which is the best game to try?'

Well all of the Fallout games are actually worth playing (except Fallout 76), but if there's one that really stood out, it would have to be New Vegas.

New Vegas' philosophical storytelling

What makes New Vegas a game that could be worth the countless hours of playing stem from its wonderfully crafted storytelling.

Digging deep into the game's lore, I was left hooked by how thought provoking the game was.

As you travel around the Mojave Wasteland, there are philosophical themes that are worth pondering.

Just ask yourself this question, in a nuclear devastated Las Vegas, which faction would be the best to take over? It's not an easy question to answer as each faction has varying political beliefs that may seem to benefit New Vegas, though they also have their respective flaws.

Is democracy the answer in a chaotic wasteland or is an iron hand needed to solve the Mojave's problems?

Or how about a utopian society ruled by a dictator? Maybe independence from these factions is the best option in a post-apocalyptic world filled with bandits, thieves, and drug addicts.

Testing your morality

But it's not only your political and philosophical beliefs that will be tested as New Vegas will also test your morals.

Wherever you go, you'll be given a plethora of options, which could be gut-wrenching when thinking about them.

For example which is the better option? Saving a family stuck inside a radiated vault, which will doom an entire community? Or is it best to kill the family to save a community?

There is no other choice for this situation and this also applies with the rest of the dilemmas you'll encounter in the game.

New Vegas has some of the most iconic characters

In addition, the game's characters have also elevated the game's narrative as some of them have backstories that could entertain or touch your heart.

As you go all the way to the end, the robotic character known as Yes Man will introduce a lot of laughs due to his inability to deny any request.

Then there are other characters who will forever be engraved in your journey due to their complexities, as seen from the likes of Lily, Raul, Boone, and Veronica.

Plus there are others along the way who will make your adventure, a memorable one.

What about New Vegas' gameplay?

While New Vegas has a lot of highs, there are still some concerns about the game, especially when looking at the graphics and gameplay, as it may seem that it wasn't able to stand the test of time in these aspects.

Moving around and shooting foes could feel very clunky especially when you already have experience playing Fallout 4, which offers the best gameplay experience.

Then when looking at the graphics, it is definitely lightyears below the modern Fallout games. I even spent a lot of time making my character as I wasn't satisfied with game's character creation model. At the end of the day, I gave up.

It may look archaic, but New Vegas stands out in terms of storytelling which I've already discussed earlier.

I even played Fallout 4 after New Vegas and while the former impressed me due to its gameplay elements and better character design, I still prefer the latter's profound lore and storytelling. It's easy to decide which faction will be the best for society in the 4th installment, but that wasn't the case in New Vegas.

And due to New Vegas' rich storytelling, one might say, "Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter."

New Vegas is currently available on Steam, priced at Php319.95 for the base game and Php599.99 for the ultimate edition.
