ESPORTS players had rave reviews of the NBA 2K25, which was recently released in the Philippine market.
Newly-crowned UAAP champion Paolo Media and other esports personalities recently tried out the new game during its recent unveiling at the NBA Store at the Mall of Asia Arena.
According to the game’s website, the NBA 2K25 has a ProPLAY feature as it “takes authentic movements from actual NBA footage and translates them into engaging, immersive gameplay.”
“This year, we’re bringing you even closer to the action, and we can’t wait for you to experience it,” according to the website.
So far, known esports practitioners in the Philippines said the NBA 2K25 is living up to the billing.
“I can say that 2K25 is a huge leap in terms of game play compared to 24 and 23,” said Medina, who ruled the NBA 2K event in the UAAP recently for Ateneo. “I can really feel that it’s like a NexGen game. I feel like 2k was able to make use of the PS5. The graphics are nice. The gameplay is nice. All the new animations are nice.”
“The signature go-to shots, it really looks life-like. It’s going to be helpful for all the players, even the new players, because it’s your go-to-shot, if you can master that, you would be good,” said Medina.
De La Salle’s Kegan Yap also likes the features especially the dribbling since he usually uses guards in the game.
“The dribbling right now is very fluid and very realistic. If you are going to compare the previous 2Ks, you are going to see a lot of differences. For me to learn, you just have to dedicate my time for myself,” said Yap.
Adjustments are, meanwhile, the focus right now of e-Gilas players Miguel Hubillar and Paolo Madronio, who also joined in the official reveal since NBA 2K25 will now be used in the e-FIBA competitions.
“Iba talaga ngayon,” said Hubillar, who at 18 years old already served as a manager for University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP. “Unlike in the past years, kada transition ng past year, kahit papaano may same same pa. Pero ngayon, adjustment talaga. Iba ‘yung combo at galaw talaga. Ramdam mo na smoot at iba ‘yung jumpshot, iba ‘yung mga timing. Ang daming nadagdag na settings.”
“Marami talagang adjustments. May mga galing pa rin sa 2K24 pero sa position ko, marami akong ina-adjust ngayon. Dami talagang kailangan i-experiment at pag-aralan kung ano ang magandang gameplay ngayon. Big transition talaga from 2k24,” said Madronio, who plays center in 2K games.
An added feature in the game as well is the Gilas Pilipinas jersey available in the MyCareer mode.
“Every year is an exciting time for our fans to get their hands of the game,” said 2K Games Senior Marketing Manager Wayne Ng. “We always have feedback on what are the improvements. Our devs have done amazing this year in terms of just the game play alone but also adding more new things and new players in the game.”
