Younghusbands settle score as Team James edges out Team Phil in Clear Dream Match III

    Jun 7, 2014

THE older brother had the final say.

James Younghusand finally put an end to his sibling rivalry against younger brother Phil as Team James turned back Team Phil, 1-0, in the Clear Dream Match 3 on Saturday night at the University of Makati Stadium.

A header from Joaco Cañas proved to be the difference in the competitive third and final edition of the all-star charity match.

Cañas fittingly emerged the MVP and best defender for Team James, bolstered by Manchester United striker Andy Cole.

Even with another former United great Paul Scholes as its reinforcement, Team Phil failed to find the back of the net no thanks to an impenetrable defense anchored by eventual best goalkeeper Roland Sadia.

The match was marred by a head injury sustained by Phil Younghusband, who was readily brought to the hospital.

"I'm really happy my team won, but I hope my brother is okay," James Younghusband said of Phil, who was caught in a head-on collision with Dodong Villareal during a battle for a 50-50 ball.

Team Phil conjured more attempts, including one from Kenshiro Daniels in the first half.

Scholes brandished the playmaking that made him one of the best midfielders of his time as he made one pinpoint pass in the second half to Phil Younghusband, who had a clear scoring opportunity before getting fouled.

Cole, the second-highest goal-scorer in English Premier League history, nearly found the back of the net, only for his on-target shot to be denied by Sadia in the 72nd minute, earning Team James a corner, which set the stage for Cañas’ winner.
