    Worker falls to his death at World Cup stadium

    A construction worker died after falling from the roof of a World Cup stadium in the city of Manaus last Saturday (Sunday, Manila time), the latest setback to hit host Brazil as it prepares to host the international event in 2014.

    The fatality is the  second at the Arena Amazonia this year, and the third fatality in a World Cup stadium in less than a month.

    A few hours after the trgic fall, another worker succumbed to a heart attack while working outside the venue in Manaus, and a local union threatened to start a strike next week to protest inadequate working conditions.

    Last November, two workers died when a crane collapsed as it was hoisting a 500-ton piece of roofing at the Sao Paulo stadium, the inaugural venue on June 12.
