Union: Worker warned crane was on unstable ground in Brazil stadium collapse

    Nov 29, 2013

A safety engineer's warnings were allegedly brushed aside to speed up the construction of the World Cup stadium in Sao Paolo where a giant crane collapse killed two workers, according to a labor union leader on Thursday (Friday, Manila time).

The accident has raised concerns about Brazil's capacity to host the 2014 tournament as well as the 2016 Olympics.

Sao Paulo's Arena Corinthians was scheduled to be completed by the end of December and work was said to have been expedited at the detriment to safety and efficiency.
