Loyola Meralco, Pachanga Diliman complete FA League Cup semifinal cast
Phil Younghusband and the Sparks set up a semifinal showdown with powerhouse Globakl FC.

LOYOLA Meralco and Pachanga Diliman turned back separate opponents on Monday night to complete the semifinal cast in the Football Alliance League Cup of the United Football League at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The Sparks banked on an early lead before bucking a man disadvantage to hold off Kaya FC, 2-1, after Pachanga outlasted Cinderella team Manila All-Japan, 2-1, in extra time.

Loyola thus arranged an anticipated Final Four meeting against reigning league champion Global FC, while Pachanga is set to face newly promoted Ceres-La Salle after the draw held shortly after the quarterfinals.

The semifinals are set next Tuesday.

Phil Younghusband fired a brace, the first goal from a penalty awarded after teammate Matthew Hartmann was fouled inside the box in the 24th minute, then the second a quality finish five minutes into the second half, negating Diego Barrera’s screamer of a goal that knotted the count in the 33rd minute.

The Sparks preserved the lead even after going a man down following Simon Greatwich’s ejection after picking up a second yellow card in the 75th minute.

Lee Jeong Woo scored the winner in the 100th minute for Pachanga in the grueling match that needed extra time after both teams wound up tied in regulation with goals by Pachanga’s Behrous Khoshgavar and MAJ’s Yugo Kobayashi canceling each other out.
